Mixing Fitness with Fashion: How Staying Active Shapes My Modeling Style
Modeling isn’t just about standing still and looking perfect; it’s about movement, energy, and embodying the lifestyle that inspires the fashion. For me, fitness is inseparable from style – it shapes the way I carry myself and unlocks creative expression.
Growing up, I was deeply involved in athletics-gymnastics, volleyball, tennis, rock climbing, and scuba diving shaped much of who I am. Despite my love for sports, modeling never felt like a realistic path. I saw mostly skinny women on magazine covers and inside spreads, and as an athlete with a muscular, curvy physique, I believed I was too different-too “overweight” and strong-to be seen or celebrated in that space. This perception kept me from even considering modeling as an option for many years.
Due to the intensity of the sports I played, I grew to love heavy lifting. I also learned early on that having a well rounded body and muscles was crucial for longevity in anything you do.
I love incorporating strength training, cardio (though my least favorite unless it’s a walk through the neighborhood with good tunes), and flexibility workouts that build my endurance and posture. This athletic foundation helps me bring dynamic poses to shoots and runway energy that’s compelling and confident. Being fit also means I have the stamina to handle long, demanding workdays while maintaining grace and focus.
Fitness challenges inspire me to try new styles or looks that reflect my growth – whether it’s athleisure, bold accessories, or striking activewear. It’s about translating the confidence gained in the gym into fashion choices and modeling presence.
Being comfortable in your body is the essential first step to expressing true confidence-whether in front of a camera or walking the catwalk. When you honor your shape, strength, and unique presence, it naturally shines through in your posture, movement, and expressions. For me, embracing my athletic, curvy physique unlocked a new level of self-assurance. This inner comfort gives every pose more power and authenticity, helping me connect with the camera and audience in a genuine way.
For models and anyone passionate about style, a consistent fitness routine doesn’t just improve appearance – it enhances authenticity, creativity, and professional stamina needed to thrive.
What fitness routines help you feel your best in front of the camera or in daily life? I’d love to hear your favorites!
